Twin-Wall Sheet Configurator.
From roof dimensions to an order-ready bill of materials — in five steps.
A twin-wall sheet configurator turns the measurements of a planned patio roof into a complete, validated parts list. Customers enter what they want to build; the configurator tells them what it takes and what it costs. kaliber5 has been building configurators like this for over 15 years and runs them for retailers in the sheet and patio roofing segment.
The problem: a roof is not an article
Polycarbonate sheets sell badly through an ordinary product catalogue. Building a patio roof means buying a construction, not a panel: sheets cut to length, connecting and edge profiles, seals, screws, and the right material thickness for the region's snow load. Roof width, depth, pitch and rafter spacing determine all of it — but somebody has to do the arithmetic.
In a conventional shop, that somebody is the customer. The result is baskets missing profiles, wrong lengths ordered, support tickets and returns. This is exactly where a configurator earns its keep: it moves the calculation from the customer to the software.
What the configurator does
- Measurements instead of article numbers. Roof width, roof depth, pitch, rafter length, rafter width and number of rafters — nothing more is needed to get started.
- Real-time 3D preview. The construction is drawn while the values are still being typed and changes with every input. Customers see their roof before making a single purchase decision.
- A recommendation, not a catalogue. From the input, the configurator derives a suitable sheet model and proposes it. Change it if you like; if you don't, you still arrive at a valid result.
- Accessories calculated automatically. Profiles, seals and fixings follow from the construction and are included, instead of being hunted down by the customer.
- A bill of materials to order from. The result is a complete parts list with pricing, ready to save and print — and, depending on the integration, to hand straight to the basket.
- No invalid configurations. Combinations that do not work structurally or technically are caught, with alternatives offered instead.
In production: Mein Baustoffversand
kaliber5 runs the roof plate configurator of meinbaustoffversand.de for Jukom GmbH. In five steps — substructure, properties, roof, accessories, bill of materials — it takes customers from the first measurement to a finished order list, hosted on its own subdomain.

Technical setup
These configurators are built on our configurator framework: the configuration engine decides which combinations are valid, the geometry engine generates the 3D geometry parametrically from the entered measurements, and the 3D viewer renders it in the browser — no plugin, no installation.
There are two proven ways to run it: embedded as a web component inside an existing shop system, or on a dedicated subdomain handing the result to the basket. Product data is maintained by the retailer in a dedicated administration backend, from which the configurator pulls its prices and rules.
Frequently asked questions
What does a twin-wall sheet configurator do?
It turns the measurements of a planned patio roof into a complete bill of materials. From roof width, roof depth, pitch and rafter spacing it calculates how many sheets, profiles, seals and screws are needed, at what length, and what that costs.
Why is an ordinary shop not enough?
A patio roof is not an article but a parts list of components that have to fit together. In a conventional catalogue the customer has to do the maths and risks ordering the wrong quantities. The configurator takes that calculation off their hands and rules out invalid combinations.
Can the configurator be embedded into an existing shop?
Yes. We embed configurators as a web component into existing shop systems, or run them on a dedicated subdomain that hands the result over to the basket. Both variants are in production with kaliber5 clients.
